According to the Bible the oldest family member was John Strang, burgess in the burgh of Forfar and married to Kathrene Dysart. They had the son Alexander Strang, who also is noted to have been a burgess in the said burgh. Alexander married Elspeth (Elizabeth) Williamson. Alexander Strang and his son David may be the same two people by that name that are mentioned in connection with a church in 1568. The son David Strang was married to Grizell Cramond.
